FarmVille is a social network game that was created by Zynga and that is available for play on Adobe Flash via Facebook and Microsoft’s MSN games. It is also available as an app on the iPhone, iPod Touch and the iPad. Currently, it is the most popular application on Facebook, with over 10% of Facebook users accessing the game and does not charge users for playing the game. However, there is an option to access premium content – for this, there is a charge.

FarmVille is most popular among people who live in cities and in larger suburbs, perhaps because of their yearning for a more rural, relaxed atmosphere in their lives. In fact, it is now more popular than World of Warcraft and Mafiawars put together, with over 56 million users. At the same time, the overriding opinion amongst people that see FarmVille accomplishments and Facebook and even amongst people that play FarmVille is that it is quite a boring game.

So why do over 56 million people play Farmville? It seems that it is played by so many people because it is advertised so heavily all over Facebook.
